Clarke Valve, a company with the most advanced product offering in the industrial valve space, is currently seeking an energetic, self-motivated, highly driven, customer centric Chemical application engineer to join their Sales team.  This Application Engineer will be directly involved with technical support, commercial reviews, pricing and overall customer satisfaction.  The technical evaluation will include, but not be limited to: review of customer specifications, sizing based on customer process conditions and communications with the sales channel and customer base.  Individual must have ability to be responsive, attention to detail and awareness of relevant codes and standards, as applicable.  In addition, must be able to work independently and as part of a team driving customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with sales channels and customers
  • Perform detailed reviews of customer specifications, providing comments, clarifications and alternatives to customer requirements
  • Prepare technical quotations utilizing sales resources and engineering data
  • Accurately size and select valves and actuators, when required, based on customer supplied data
  • Coordinate with other departments as required to ensure a cost effective, reliable solution is being presented to the client
  • Ensure that pricing developed is accurate and aligned with strategic initiatives to optimize order success rate while minimizing overall business risk
  • Maintain responsibility for ensuring all elements of the quote process are completed on time, with accuracy and required sales approvals
  • Maintain critical information within CRM including, but not limited to: quotations, contacts, updates, account changes and purchase orders
  • Perform initial customer purchase order reviews to ensure accuracy compared to the quotation
  • Hand-off the order to project management and engineering for manufacturing
  • Provide technical training to sales channel via web
  • Travel up to 50%

Education and/or Experience

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the process control field or related engineering field
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a self-managed team
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Field application experience preferred
  • Proficient in Office applications
  • Prefer past experience with using a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tool
  • Excellent written and overall communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for promoting, demonstrating and selling the benefits of the patented Shutter Valve technology
  • Develop and maintain relationships with exclusive and non-exclusive distributor network
  • Provide best-in-industry Client Liaison support – understand current and target customer’s needs, pain points, and buying motives
  • Upon submission of a proposal and quotation to a distributor or partner, you will assume responsibility for closing the deal
  • Polished relationship-building skills, strategic thinking skills and ability to prioritize and follow-up will contribute to the success between technical sales leadership and valued customers
  • Host technical discussions, bring confidence, tenacity and collaborative problem-solving skills to the team and your customers
  • Leverage internal engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing resources to support technical and commercial discussions with distributors and/or end users
  • Travel as necessary to interface with all customer decision-makers and influencers, you will develop trust, loyalty and solid long-term relationship
  • Visit installation projects to further understand product applications, customer needs and challenges
  • Participate in local marketing events such as seminars, trade shows, conferences and customer events as needed

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience or a combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in Oil & Gas and Control Valve Applications
  • Technically sales minded and understands what applications are using what type of control valves
  • Familiar with the project landscape, CapEx spends, MRO opportunities, etc.
  • A proven sales track record is successfully closing deals
  • Adaptable to learning who Clarke Valve is and sell the benefits of Shutter Valve
  • Be driven to develop relationships and work as part of a team
  • Prior experience collaborating with sales, engineering, operations, and business development
  • Strong presentation, writing, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of technical standards related to valves (ISA, ANSI, ASME, API, etc) a plus

Responsibilities
As a member of the Clarke Valve team, the Shop Floor Valve Tech is responsible for completing the tasks listed below as required by management and engineering.  As part of the Clarke team, the team member should expect to have flexibility in their role. At times new responsibilities may be given to the employee that are not covered on this list. Conversely, not every task will be required regularly.

  • Assemble valves
  • Comply with ISO 9001 quality management system
  • Perform valve testing (e.g. hydrostatic, seat leakage)
  • Assist in quality inspection of incoming materials, and outgoing finished products
  • Assist with daily/preventative maintenance on shop floor equipment as needed
  • Assist machinist (CNC, lathe, mill, etc…)
  • Assist with test programs, test setups, piping setups, etc.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Perform 5S, 6-Sigma, and OSHA activities
  • Move inventory, workstations, etc. using the fork lift
  • Assist in completing cycle counts and inventory audits
  • Complete tasks requiring the use of hand tools including: Torque Guns, Wrenches
  • Package valves for shipment
  • Occasional lifting required (less than 50 lbs)

Job Knowledge / Experience / Skills

  • Minimum of Associates Degree required
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to use hand tools
  • Ability to use MS Office software products (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to read and interpret industry standards (e.g., ASME, ISA, ISO, ASTM)
  • Ability to use basic measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
